Valley Agencies Safer Places to Work

Valley Council members and their new "friends" after completing their Family & Friends CPR Anytime Training

Thanks to the latest Lunch "n" Learn program, seven Valley nonprofits are safer places to work today as employees of those agencies completed a special lunchtime training conducted by Daun Barrett of the Valley Parish Nurse Program held at Valley United Way. The Family & Friends CPR Anytime program is a short (22 minute), user friendly course designed to acquaint people with the basics of Adult CPR. Each of the participants received their own kit including a "mini Anne CPR Learning Manikin and an instructional DVD. The trainees were asked to share their kits with others at home or back at the office in an effort to continue to make the entire Valley a Heart-Safe community.

The 20 minute course covered the basics of CPR and also an introduction to Automated External Defibrillators. Daun pointed out that approximately 40 of the machines have been distributed at various sites throughout the Valley and the groups receiving the machines have been trained in their use and maintenance.

Valley Agencies who participated in the training included:

  • Visiting Nurses of South Central Connecticut
  • The Workplace
  • Catholic Charities
  • Naugatuck Valley Health District
  • Derby Public Library
  • The Umbrella
  • Valley United Way
