PCRC AGENCY OF THE YEAR

Jack Walsh (R) presenting the Agency of the Year Award to Michael Wynne

The Lower Naugatuck Valley Parent Child Resource Center, Inc. (PCRC) was established in 1975 by local citizens concerned about the lack of mental health services specifically available to children in the Valley. Today, with its Mission to promote, enhance and maintain the positive behavioral health of children and families so they might develop to their fullest potential, PCRC has evolved into the leading provider of behavioral health services to children and families in the Valley. With a staff of twenty-seven, the agency’s services include a licensed Child Guidance Clinic, Parent Aide, Therapeutic Mentoring, Early Childhood Consultation, System of Care Coordination and Intensive Outpatient programs. In 2004, PCRC moved into a state-of-the-art facility, which has helped enhance its reputation as a highly regarded center for training of Graduate Social Work Students.

PCRC actively collaborates with other agencies in the community, including partnerships with Birmingham Group Services in a Young Adult Services program, with TEAM, Inc. in an early childhood intervention program, and with a number of agencies in the Community Mental Health Crisis Team. In recent years, in response to community needs, PCRC helped organize a family support group, sponsored a therapeutic horseback riding program, developed specialized groups for children and adolescents with symptoms of diabetes, obesity and heart disease, a program to assist adolescents struggling to achieve their academic or vocational goals, and most recently, an Intensive Outpatient Program aimed at preventing hospitalization and residential treatment.
