HEALTHY VALLEY 2000

FAMILY RESOURCE LIBRARY

AVAILABLE AT HEAD START

The Valley is one of 14 communities in the state of Connecticut to receive just under $2,000 to establish a parent and family resource center. The center in the Valley is located at TEAM’s Ansonia Head Start office in Ansonia. Funds were made available through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to the United Way of Connecticut. Healthy Valley 2000 and Valley United Way spearheaded the effort to apply for the funds, and worked with TEAM to establish the center at the Head Start office.

The funds were used to purchase a range of books and videos to benefit parents, families, children and educators in the Valley community. These materials address a wide range of issues facing parents, families and children, including parenting issues, health issues, family violence, discipline, dealing with stress, potty training, self-esteem issues and more. "These materials are a wonderful resource for families and children in the Valley," said Connie Condon, Director of Child Services of TEAM in Derby. "We are fortunate to be one of 14 communities to receive this funding, and I encourage people to use the library," she added. The Head Start office is located at 80 Howard Avenue in Ansonia and is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
