Mission & Goals

Leadership Greater Valley, a collaborative effort of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Valley United Way, and the Valley Council for Health & Human Services, combines leadership skill-building with community education to help cultivate future leaders of Valley organizations and associations.

Participants in the program not only enhance their current leadership skills but also gain the knowledge to apply those skills to the Valley community.  The program enables participants to gain:

  • greater understanding of the Valley community
  • improved leadership and decision-making skills
  • the opportunity to increase their professional networks
  • the passion, drive and vision necessary to play a pivotal role in their community

Current Activities

Leadership Training Program —Leadership Greater Valley holds a 9 week training program each fall that combined leadership skill building with education about the Valley community.

Placing Graduates in Nonprofit Leadership PositionsThe program works to connect graduates with nonprofit agencies in need of Board members and with other leadership opportunities in the community.

Alumni Network—Leadership Greater Valley maintains an alumni network to foster continued connection and involvement.

History

In 1996, the Valley United Way partnered with the Valley Council for Health & Human Services to create the L.E.A.D. program in order to create volunteer leadership opportunities and develop a diverse pool of new volunteers to address the needs of the Valley community.  When the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce began its involvement under the leadership of Bill Purcell, the program took on its current name.  The Chamber is responsible for day-to-day coordination of the program, which continues to be guided by a collaborative committee drawn from the three organizations.
