MEDICAID

Upcoming Medicaid Changes
for Some Husky D Members:

Some individuals enrolled in HUSKY D may be affected by upcoming federal Medicaid changes beginning January 1, 2027. These changes require some members to report work, school, job training, volunteer activity, or other qualifying information to keep their health coverage. Members may also need to renew their coverage every 6 months instead of once a year. Not everyone will be affected, and some people may qualify for an exemption. The most important step right now is to make sure your contact information is up to date so you can receive notices and instructions from the Connecticut Department of Social Services if the changes apply to you.

What Is Changing?

Beginning January 1, 2027, some HUSKY D members may need to show proof each month that they are meeting new program requirements.

This may include:

  • Working and earning at least $580 per month

  • Spending 80 hours per month working, in job training, or doing community service or volunteer work

  • Being enrolled at least half-time in school

Some HUSKY D members may also need to renew their coverage every 6 months instead of once a year.

More information about what counts, how reporting will work, and when each person may need to begin reporting will be provided by the Connecticut Department of Social Services.

Who May Be Affected?

The new work rules may apply if all of the following are true:

  • You are age 19 to 64

  • You have HUSKY D

  • You are able to work

  • You do not live with a child under age 14

  • You do not qualify for an exemption

If these changes apply to you, the Department of Social Services will send you information by mail, email, or text.

Who May Be Exempt?

The work rules may not apply if any of the following are true:

  • You are pregnant or have been pregnant within the past 12 months

  • You have serious health conditions

  • You are a caretaker relative of a child under age 19

  • You have a disability that prevents you from working

  • You are a caretaker relative of a person with disabilities

  • You are already working 80 hours per month or meeting work requirements through another program such as SNAP or TFA

  • You are between ages 19 and 25 and were in foster care

  • You are in a drug or alcohol treatment and rehabilitation program

  • You are now in, or were recently in, a hospital, nursing facility, intermediate care facility, or psychiatric hospital

  • You need to travel outside your local area for long periods to get medical care for yourself or your child

The work rules also do not apply if you:

  • Are not age 19 to 64

  • Do not have HUSKY D

  • Live with a child under age 14
