SENIORS
Senior centers play a vital role in supporting older adults across the country. Nearly 10,000 centers serve more than one million seniors every day nationally, providing access to programs and services that help people stay healthy, independent, and connected. Research shows that seniors who participate in center activities can delay the onset of chronic conditions and experience meaningful improvements in their physical, social, emotional, mental, spiritual, and financial well‑being.
In the Valley region, the share of residents aged 65 and older varies by town: Beacon Falls (25.0%), Oxford (23.1%), Derby (20.6%), Shelton (20.1%), Ansonia (18.2%), Seymour (16.6%), and Naugatuck (14.6%). These numbers highlight the growing need for strong, coordinated systems that support healthy aging and ensure older adults remain active, valued members of our community.
